Pre-Production Diary

30/09/2014

Today we finished are shot list as a group, it came to 90 seconds exactly although we know after editing it may be longer and we are willing to make changes to keep in the time limit. We then moved on to doing the story board, I have began the drawings and have been designated as the drawer; I have taken the storyboard home to finish the drawings.
Reuben has found a back track to go with our short film and it works well with the theme.

01/10/2014

Today I finished the drawings of the storyboard, as a group we decided that Alana would finish up the writing of it and allowed her to take it home.

02/10/2014

Alana is finishing up the writing on the storyboard, as a group we have started on the risk assessments; we have organised our time for tomorrow, to finish the project by the deadline. We also decided on the props we are using for the short, we started on the risk assessments.

03/10/2014

I finished the Recces and found the locations then completed the Location Releases. Alana began on the Production Schedule, whilst Reuben began on the Risk Assessments. I finished the writing as Alana did not, I assume she did not know and i finished it.

06/10/2014

We finished our Production Schedule and Risk Assessments, then organised them. We completed the task in our first lesson and discussed what we would do next week, we believed that it was finished as we handed it in although i do not know if that was the case and i believe our group had to tie up the loose ends.

08/10/2014

I was absent this day and did not know what went on during it.

13/10/2014

Today in our first lesson we filmed in meeting room 2, i carried and organized the props onto the table. The filming was done quickly and efficiently, we videoed the props and Reuben s face as he entered the room. After we filmed him walking into 4 different doors (Which are not the rooms we are filming in) in the west block, we filmed this twice for each shot to be safe and content with the material. In our second lesson, I caught up with what we did on Wednesday and completed the photo book task of our work on FlipSnack.

14/10/2014

We filmed in W12, we filmed Reuben staring at the subject tied up and panning the room. Then we filmed his reaction to seeing the props and the props on him, Alana and Reuben left to film in other groups as we completed our tasks for the day. We have made alterations to our plans seeing as Alana and Reuben aren't needed in other groups.

15/10/2014

We filmed the corridor scenes and Alana and I practiced editing on the Mac, although we did not save any edits as we were planning on editing as a group so nobody would feel left out or have a problem with the editing ideas.

16/10/2014

We filmed in the prop room today, as we were setting up, a light that was stuck on top of a curtain fell and crashed into the corner of the table; breaking one of 5 bulbs, fortunately I had unplugged it before, we informed Ellie and Josh, the contents were cleaned up and we got on with our production. We filmed the room panning onto the props on the table, illuminated by the light, then zooming in for a close up. It then cut back to Reuben's face in the doorway looking confused; as a close up.

17/10/2014

We filmed extra scenes and corridor scenes, we uploaded all shots onto the Mac and are waiting for Public Services room to be free so we can film our last shot. After that we shall be finished with filming and ready to edit on Monday, next week.
We have finished filming all our scenes, our last one being the Public Services room, which contained Reuben surveying the room and then cutting to his reaction as he sees the props and run away, the camera then falls onto the props to hit left.

20/10/2014

We added all of our footage Pro Premier and re-sized it to fit 90 seconds, some of our scenes were missing so we had to improvise with the editing. We removed all but one section of the sound; the door shutting at the prop room. We found a few continuity errors but, as a team we trimmed and cut footage so it is unnoticeable to the audience. Reuben had the idea of using 'requiem for a dream' a very intense instrumental, however we believed it didn't fit into the whole idea so we removed it. Instead we came to a compromise and found 'Dead Silence' theme, Josh informed us we can't use Copyright music so we had to change it to another backtrack, it fits fairly well and keeps you on your toes. Thanks to Reuben, Alana and I understood the Pro Premier editing better and found it easier to use.

21/10/2014

We applied Reuben's sighing sounds to the video, he yet again forgot the SD card therefore we couldn't add the Pan in Room 3/ Public Services room, we are planning on adding it tomorrow and hopefully he brings the SD in.

22/10/2014

Reuben brought the SD in today and we applied the pan scene to the short film, it came to 89 seconds, the theme has been added and the cuts have been made.
